  1. Part 1 – The Three Trials

    VILLAGE
Begin the game by proceeding down the path from the lookout point. Take a right turn along the dock and open the door to enter the SCUMM Bar. Inside, make your way to the room where three pirates are gathered. Approach the fireplace and patiently wait for the chef to exit through the right door. Seize the opportunity to quickly enter the kitchen.
Inside the kitchen, locate the pot under the table and pick it up. Obtain the hunk of meat from the table. Combine the hunk of meat with the pot o’ stew. Proceed to open the door on the right and approach the fish, but be aware of the bird obstructing your way. Position yourself on the bottom-right plank to launch the bird into the air. Repeat this action three times. On the third attempt, swiftly grab the fish and return to the kitchen.
Retrieve the meat from the pot o’ stew and use the fish to enhance the stew. Acquire the stewed fish and exit the kitchen. Engage in conversation with the pirates who appear important. Say “I want to be a pirate” and subsequently reply with “I’ll just be running along now.” Walk left past the curtain and leave the SCUMM Bar. Proceed left along the dock and ascend the cliff path. Pass through the archway and choose the top-right path.

    CLEARING
Follow the left path and enter the circus tent. Inside, interrupt the Fettucini brothers by selecting any of the five speech options. When asked if you want to perform the cannon stunt, respond with “OK, I’ll do it.” When questioned about a helmet, confidently state, “Of course I have a helmet. What sort of idiot do you take me for?” Hand over the pot to the Fettucini brothers. After Guybrush endures a painful landing from the cannon, choose any of the speech options when the Fettucini brothers inquire about your well-being. Exit the tent and continue up the path on the right to leave the clearing.

    VILLAGE
After descending the cliff path, head right along the dock and pass through the archway on the far right. Engage in conversation with the citizen of Melee and respond with “No, but I once had a barber named Dominique” when asked about a map. When offered to buy a map, reply with “I’ll take it. It’ll make a swell gift.” Proceed left and enter the first door on the right. Enter the voodoo shop, collect the chicken from the table, then exit the shop through the door.
Continue through the archway beneath the clock. Open the first door on the street and enter the shop. Retrieve the sword from the chests on the first floor. Acquire the shovel near the safe on the second floor. Speak with the storekeeper, mention the sword, and express your desire to obtain it. Follow the same process for the shovel. Finally, state, “I think I’d just like to browse.” Exit the shop.
Pass through the archway on the right and converse with the pirates on the left. Inquire about a treasure map, responding with “Do you know where I can find a treasure map around here?” When the pirate asks if you want the minutes, reply with “No, but I’ll take one if you give me two pieces of eight.” Say “I’ll just be running along now.” Go right and walk through the archway, then proceed left along the dock and ascend the cliff path on the opposite side. At the lookout point, walk through the archway and choose the top-right path.

    FORK
Upon reaching the fork, select either of the top exits on the screen. Pick up the yellow petal and continue left. Go right. Go left. Go right. Proceed upward. Go right. Go left. Go up. Go left. Go up. Move to the right and use the shovel on the X sign to uncover a T-shirt. Walk to the left and leave the area. Note that pirates will now appear at various positions on the map screen. If they encounter Guybrush on the path, you’ll have the option to fight. For now, it’s best to ignore the pirates and focus on other tasks.

    VILLAGE
Walk right along the dock and go through the archway on the far right side of the area. Pass through the archway beneath the clock. Proceed left through the archway, following the cliff path until you reach the Governor’s mansion. In your inventory, combine the yellow petal with the stewed meat to create meat with condiment. Feed the meat with condiment to the poodles, causing them to fall asleep. Open the door and enter the mansion.
Inside the mansion, open the nearest doors and enter the main hall. After the cutscene, descend the stairs and leave the mansion. Walk right and follow the path back to town. Enter the first doorway before the archway. Speak with Otis. Pass through the doorway to return to the town. Move right and go through the door on the right side of the alley to enter the shop. Engage in conversation with the storekeeper and request a breath mint. State, “I think I’d just like to browse.” Leave the shop.
Proceed left and enter the first doorway before the archway. Give the breath mints to Otis. When he talks to you, select one of the bottom two options. Offer him the gopher repellent, and in return, he’ll give you a cake. Return through the doorway to the town. Go left through the archway and follow the cliff path to the Governor’s mansion. Enter the mansion.
Inside the mansion, open the cake to reveal a file. Approach the gaping hole. After another cutscene, the sheriff will question you about the idol. Select any of the speech options. Respond to the Governor with any of the speech options. After she leaves, walk left and open the door, leading to the sheriff’s arrival. Choose any of the speech options, and he will throw you off the dock into the sea.
While in the sea, retrieve the fabulous idol, and Guybrush will automatically obtain a sword before climbing up the ladder. After the cutscene, walk left along the dock and ascend the cliff path on the other side. At the lookout point, pass through the archway and choose the top-right path.

    HOUSE
During your first visit to the house, a troll will block your path on the bridge. Give the stewed fish to the troll to cross over to the other side of the bridge. Continue to the house. Upon reaching the house’s exterior, open the door, and the sword trainer will appear. Select the first speech option. When he questions your capabilities, choose the first speech option three times. When asked about your funds, state, “I’ve got 30 pieces of eight.” When he requests to see your sword, respond with “OK, check it out.” When the sword trainer insults you, select any of the four speech options. Exit the house and walk down the path on either the left or right side to leave the area.

    MAP
Now that you’ve learned some insult responses from the sword trainer, it’s time to face the pirates. Wait on the path for a pirate to approach Guybrush. When they engage in conversation, declare, “My name is Guybrush Threepwood. Prepare to die!” It’s your turn to throw an insult, so choose any of the speech options and listen to the pirate’s response.
Each time you select an insult that the pirate doesn’t know the answer to, you’ll advance. Selecting an insult that the pirate knows will move you back, and it will be the pirate’s turn to respond. When the pirate introduces a new insult, it will be added to the list. When the pirate answers an insult correctly, their response will be added to Guybrush’s list. You must fight quite a few pirates to attain their comebacks before moving on to the next section.
