List of Every Street Fighter Game (Oldest to Newest) with Screenshots

Street Fighter is one of the greats of the fighting game genre. I still remember playing Street Fighter 2 for the first time and how awesome it was! In honor of this great franchise, I thought I would take a trip down memory lane and revisit every Street Fighter game there has ever been!

Below is a list of all the Street Fighter games that have been released from oldest to newest (not including Arcade only or bundles). Let me know what your favourite is!

Street Fighter (1987)

The very first Street Fighter game in the series and Capcom’s first-ever competitive fighting game. The game was created by adapting the boss battles of Takashi Nishiyama’s earlier beat ’em up game Kung-Fu Master (1984), for a one-on-one fighting game, and by drawing influence from popular Japanese shōnen manga

Super Street Fighter II (1993)

Super Street Fighter 2 was the first Street Fighter game that I was introduced to. I played this on MS-DOS and was obsessed with it. This was originally an arcade only game, but was later released for home consoles.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (1994)

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo introduced several new gameplay mechanics not present in previous versions of Street Fighter II, including the addition of combination moves called super combos and air combos. It also introduced the secret character Akuma, who would go on to become a recurring character in later Street Fighter installments

Street Fighter Alpha (1995)

A Prequel to Street Fighter 2, featuring younger versions of characters as well as characters from the original Street Fighter and Final Fight games.

Street Fighter: The Movie (1995)

The Street Fighter Movie is one of my guilty pleasures (along with the Mortal Kombat Movies), but this game didn’t really take off unfortunately. The idea of it was actually really cool for it’s time, but the gameplay was just lacking!

Street Fighter Alpha 2 (1996)

The second of the Street Fighter Alpha series, featuring a number of improvements, such as new attacks, stages, endings, and gameplay features.

X-Men vs. Street Fighter (1996)

The first of the crossover games that brought the world of X-Men into a fighting game alongside our beloved Street Fighter characters! I was a massive X-Men fan (still am) so seeing a crossover like this was awesome!

Street Fighter EX (1996)

The first Street Fighter game to feature 3D polygon graphics, but still play in the traditional 2D gameplay that we know and love.

Street Fighter III (1997)

The next full installment in the Street Fighter Series. This game was only released on Arcade and Dreamcast, which limited it’s reach!

Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (1997)

This crossover causes a lot of blisters in my house growing up. We were big on our fighting games and what kids don’t love Marvel? Mixing them both together was genius!

Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact (1997)

Second Impact was an update to Street Fighter 3, introducing new gameplay mechanics, new characters, and new special moves. The game also brings back bonus rounds, not seen in the series since Super Street Fighter 2.

Street Fighter EX2 (1998)

Street Fighter EX2 is the sequel to the original Street Fighter EX, and the second spin-off game of the Street Fighter series. An updated version of the game titled Street Fighter EX2 Plus was released in 1999 in arcades as well and subsequently ported to the PlayStation the same year.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 (1998)

The third and final installment in the Street Fighter Alpha series, which is a sequel to Street Fighter Alpha 2 game. Alpha 3 added more playable characters and added new features such as selectable fighting styles called “isms”.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (1999)

Street Fighter III 3rd Strike is the second and final follow-up to Street Fighter 3, adding 5 new characters to the roster (including Chun Li). It also added further refinements to the previous game’s play mechanics and rules, including improvements to the parry system.

I was late to the party with this one and didn’t really get a chance to play it until the PS3 release!

Street Fighter EX3 (2000)

This is my favourite Street Fighter game of all time! The core gameplay is essentially the same as previous EX games, but EX3 adds a new tag team feature, similar to Tekken Tag Tournament, allowing players to switch between characters and offering greater combination possibilities.

The Guard Break system from the previous games has been removed and replaced with a similar system called the ‘Surprise Blow’, which doesn’t use up energy stored in your super bar.

Hyper Street Fighter II (2003)

Created to commemorate the 15th Street Fighter, Hyper Street Fighter II is a modified port of Super Street Fighter II Turbo (1994) in which players can control any version of the main characters from the five Street Fighter 2 games previously released for the arcades.

Capcom Fighting Evolution (2004)

Not exclusively a Street Fighter game. The game features characters from three different incarnations of the Street Fighter series, as well as characters from the Darkstalkers series and the arcade game Red Earth, with each character employing the fighting system from the game that they represent.

Street Fighter IV (2008)

I remember having couch tournaments of Street Fighter 4 with my workmates at the time. It might have been their banter that added to the game for me, but it will always hold a top stop for me!

This was the first real Street Fighter game since Street Fighter EX3 in 2000 (we had to wait 8 years!). The game features 3D models, but the gameplay and its mechanics remain in the traditional 2D style the series is known for. It was followed by an updated version for consoles in 2010 called Super Street Fighter IV.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (2008)

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix is a remake of 1994’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo, featuring the original game and a high-definition version using graphics drawn by UDON Entertainment, and arranged music by OverClocked ReMix members.

Street Fighter X Tekken (2012)

This one I didn’t really get behind unfortunately (I wasn’t a massive fan of Tekken, sorry). It looked quite similar to Street Fighter 4, but had the added Tekken Characters on the roster.

Street Fighter V (2016)

The major follow-up to Street Fighter IV (2008), developed using the Unreal Engine 4 engine and was a console exclusive on Sony’s platform. This game introduces the “V-Gauge” mechanic.

The game featured 16 characters at launch, with four of them being new to the series, a main story mode and 30 additional characters were added through updates and DLC.

Ultra Street Fighter II (2017)

Ultra Street Fighter 2 is an updated version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo (1994). The game features two graphical styles: classic pixel art and updated high-definition art. New gameplay mechanics and modes were also introduced, with minor changes being made to the game’s balance.

Street Fighter 6 (2023)

Street Fighter is the sixth main entry in the Street Fighter franchise, following Street Fighter V (2016). It offers three overarching game modes and three control options. The game features a real-time commentary system, providing a tournament-style feel and the option to cheer on the player.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Beta on PC, but the game just didn’t feel like a Street Fighter game to me, so I had to give it a pass, I’m afraid!
