Every Stargate Video Game Ever Made!

As a massive Stargate fan myself, it pains me that we don’t have a modern Stargate shooter game or even a mobile game… I would settle for that!

In my opinion, Stargate is the best Sci-Fi franchise that has ever been created! Naturally, this iconic universe has inspired several video game adaptations throughout history. Some of these games brought the excitement of Stargate to life, but others struggled to meet fan expectations. Let’s take a trip through time and explore every notable Stargate game, from the early 90s classics to the latest 2024 release, Stargate: Timekeepers.

1994 – Stargate (Game Boy & Game Gear)

The first-ever Stargate video game debuted in 1994 on the Game Boy and Game Gear. Instead of an action-packed adventure, players were met with a puzzle-oriented game that failed to capture the cinematic excitement of the movie. Despite its limitations, it marked the start of Stargate’s journey in gaming.

1995 – Stargate (SNES & Sega Mega Drive)

A more faithful adaptation arrived in 1995 for the SNES and Sega Mega Drive. This side-scrolling action game closely followed the events of the original Stargate film, allowing players to step into the shoes of Colonel Jack O’Neill as they battled through enemies, solved puzzles, and explored alien worlds. While it wasn’t groundbreaking, it provided a more immersive Stargate experience than its predecessor.

2004 – Stargate SG-1 Mobile

Fans of the hit TV series Stargate SG-1 were treated to a mobile adventure in 2004. This game followed the SG-1 team on missions against the Goa’uld, bringing some much-needed storytelling to the gaming side of the franchise. Although it was at the time where mobile games were basically just a quick cash grab, I still enjoyed playing through this one in 2024… I am a bit of a diehard fan, though!

2007 – Stargate SG-1: Entropy Syndrome

Another mobile game that looks a little more advanced than its predecessor. Despite being relatively obscure, it remains a piece of Stargate gaming history. I tried to play through this one in 2024, but unfortunately, because the developer is no longer operating and the way this game was authenticated on startup, it’s a no-go, I’m afraid!

2010 – Stargate Resistance

This third-person multiplayer shooter allowed players to battle as members of SG-1 or System Lords. Unfortunately, this game didn’t even last a year before it was closed. Unfortunately, because the servers were shut down, the game was lost to time.

2012 – Stargate Command

In 2012, Stargate fans got themselves another mobile game, but this time, it was a lot more interactive. Stargate Command provided fans with interactive fights and mini-games, letting them oversee SG-1 operations.

2013 – Stargate SG-1: Unleashed

The mobile game Stargate Command wasn’t very sustainable, with the company not able to really keep on top of content, so they decided to focus their efforts on a new mobile game, Unleashed. This episodic mobile adventure brought immersive storytelling and voice acting from the original cast. While the game was ambitious, it was short-lived and left fans wanting more.

2024 – Stargate: Timekeepers

In 2024, Stargate fans finally received a new official game: Stargate: Timekeepers. With cutting-edge graphics and a time-traveling storyline, it brings tactical strategy gameplay to the Stargate universe. While it’s not a massive AAA action title, it keeps the franchise alive and offers an engaging experience for long-time fans.

I tried this game, but I just couldn’t get into the gameplay. I like to run in and mow down enemies, but with this game you have to think very strategically, one wrong move would result in certain failure!

Cancelled Games

The Stargate franchise has seen its fair share of cancelled projects, leaving fans disappointed.

Stargate SG-1: The Alliance – A first-person shooter planned for PC, PS2, and Xbox that was cancelled before release. What I wouldn’t give to have

Stargate Worlds – An ambitious MMORPG that was meant to be the World of Warcraft of Stargate, but development collapsed before launch.

Fan Contributions – Keeping Stargate Alive!

The official game releases may have been inconsistent, but the Stargate fan community remains dedicated. Modders have worked tirelessly to bring Stargate to life in other games, such as the Stargate Source mod (TC2), proving that the passion for this universe is still strong.
