The day that I have longed for since I was 5 years old has finally happened! Heretic has been given a breath of fresh air with the release of the remastered Heretic/Hexen in 2025! I religiously do a playthrough of Heretic (and Day of the Tentacle) every year, so having this shiny new version is just perfect!
This remaster came out of the blue at Quakecon with Id Software announcing this game-changing release, and for those of you who played this classic game back when it came out, you will know just how epic this is for us!
Heretic/Hexen remaster is an absolute pleasure to play, bringing the old classics up to date with great controls, achievements, multiplayer (Co-op and deathmatch) AND brand new episodes! There is also an ‘enhanced’ soundtrack, but if you chose this over the original, then I’m afraid you are dead to me…
The new Heretic/Hexen bundle includes the three originals, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, and the Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel expansion, along with two all-new episodes “created in collaboration between individuals at id Software & Nightdive Studios,” Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur. It adds up to 117 campaign maps and 120 deathmatch maps across Heretic and Hexen!
If you are looking for cheat codes, then here they are! I remember back in the day when I had these written on a scrap piece of paper, but i played them that much that I just remembered them when I was a kid.
Note: Using cheats in the game does not disable the achievements!

| “engage##“ | You can no longer use this code as you are met with a window advising you to use the level select in the menu. |
| “ghost” / “kitty“ | No clip mode; lets you walk through obstacles and scale walls instantly. |
| “gunsgunsguns“ | Gives you every weapon at full ammo, all keys and maximum armour. Note: This replaces the old Heretic code “Rambo“ |

| “idkfa“ | Removes all weapons and ammo except for the Staff. |
| “locksmith” / “skel“ | Gives all keys. |
| “mapsco” / “ravmap“ | Use once to reveal all unexplored areas on the automap. Use again to reveal remaining items and enemies. Use a third time to return the automap to normal. |
| “satan” /”quicken“ | God mode – makes you immune to damage. |
| “shazam“ | Activates the Tome of Power. |
| “sherlock“ | Give all puzzle items. |
| “squeal“ | Turns you into a pig in Hexen. |
