XP Brew Review – Energy Tea for Gamers

This is something a little bit different for my site, but I couldn’t resist trying them out because it just seemed like a really fun drink, and the design of the brand is just fantastic!

If you’re a tea drinker and are looking for a boost, then this could well be your new favourite drink.

On this page, I’ll let you know how the taste test went and how effective it was as an energy drink. If you want to see how it stacks up against other powdered energy drinks, check out our Ultimate Powdered Energy Drink Guide.

If you are new to my site, then just a bit of information before we go on. I built this site purely to be a genuine representation of products and am not being paid to pretend that I like any of the products that I review (or don’t recommend in some cases). The internet is littered with fake reviews, and it drives me mad! If I say something is good, it is because I genuinely think it is. With that being said, taste is also subjective, so if I say that I don’t like something, but you do, it’s fine, just my preference! (don’t hate me!)

Price

One of the first things that we look at when we see a new product on the market is how much it costs. We aren’t going to take a leap of faith that a product will be good without either having a sample or having it be at least cost-effective.

The great thing about XP Brew is that they offer FREE shipping on all UK orders, so this keeps the price low for us, especially when we are just trying them out.

If you buy the sample pack that contains 6 servings (2 of each flavour), it works out at £2.00 per serving.
If you decide to buy their 40-serving pack, it works out at only £0.75p per serving. Not a bad price in my opinion!

The Taste Test

Okay so full transparency here. I’m not a massive tea drinker, so I decided for this review that I would bring the sample packs over to my Dungeons & Dragons game night because they are all drink tea regularly!

This way I will get to have the perspective of what they thought of the flavours, but i will also add my tuppence in too, from a non-tea drinker’s point of view. Let’s dive into the taste test!

Carry Me Cranberry

Okay so this one was the clear favourite of both the group and myself! It is a really smooth and almost calming taste (despite the caffeine hit).

What did the group think?

The group thought this was great, they didn’t hesitate to instantly love this one. They all thought it was really refreshing and easy to drink!

What did I think?

It was really fruity and smooth for me too. It actually reminded me of my student days at a small tea-room/shisha place that my friend took me too (Don’t judge me, I was young).

Funnily enough, it was the same friend who is at the D&D group! I believe the drink was called fairy blood, or something to that effect, which I really liked (I know you don’t care about my student years, sorry!)

Spicy Passion Power-up

This one certainly piqued the interest of the group immediately! A passionfruit tea with a kick of chilli that gives you an instant buzz! This one had everyone talking about it for quite a while too, which was great. A good conversation piece!

What did the group think?

The group all thought that it was really interesting and unique. The flavours both worked very well together, and they felt that it gave you an instant boost of energy because of the chilli.

It was also a bit of a mix in the room, some people thought that the chilli wasn’t that spicy, whereas others thought it was just right.

What did I think?

Okay, so I am terrible with spice… Sometimes I have a korma from the indian takeaway and think it is too spicy! I’m always slagged for not being able to handle my heat.

On opening up the pack, I started to cough and my eyes started to water! I did however have a try of it and I echo what the group were saying. This did give you an instant boost, and I didn’t think it was OVERLY spicy to the point that I would need to get some milk, but with that being said… There is no chance that I would have finished it!

Dark Choc Cherry

This one was the one that I personally was looking forward to. The flavour boasts a dark chocolate taste, tart sweetness of cherries, with vanilla and roasted cocoa. What’s not to love!

What did the group think?

The group were a little underwhelmed with this one, unfortunately. It might have been because it was the last one that we tried and the other two were really good, but it just didn’t hit the same way as the others. They still said it was nice to drink, but just not quite as good as the other two.

What did I think?

I wasn’t a fan of this one at all I’m afraid to say. It just didn’t taste like i imagined it would (probably because I’m not a tea drinker). I’m not quite sure how to explain what i expected, but it didn’t deliver for me.

How Effective is it?

So after we had done our taste test, we did notice a bit of a buzz going on, it wasn’t like we were running up the walls or anything crazy, but just enough. Each serving has 100mg of caffeine, which is the equivalent of having a coffee (which is what it felt like!)

Where to buy

At the moment, XP Brew is exclusively available from their website here. They are a fairly new brand, so when they grow, they might expand to selling in stores. I’ll keep this page updated as soon as I know anything.
