Walkers Qubix 1999 – The Full Looney Tunes Set You Forgot You Loved

oplus_1048610

In 1999, Walkers Crisps released one of their most iconic and memorable snack promotions: Looney Tunes Qubix! This was during the awesome periods of our childhood, when you got freebies inside packets of crisps, so something that the new generations sadly miss out on!

Qubix were basically 36 plastic squares that slotted together to create a big jigsaw. You got one for free with every packet of Walkers crisps during the promotion. There were two sides to the squares, though. One side was numbered and had an illustration of Looney Tunes characters in different scenes, and the other was part of the big jigsaw.

If you were anything like me, you would have joined these squares together to make little cubes and buildings… It was like our version of Minecraft!

I recently started collecting the set again, and each one that I looked at brought back really nostalgic memories at my gran’s house, at the weekend, excitedly going to the van to get a packet of Walkers to see which one I would get, and eagerly waiting for play time at school to open up our crisps with my friends to compare/swap. Those were the days!

Anyway, here is a picture of the complete set together and a list of all 36 pieces (with pictures) for your viewing pleasure!

Black & White Pieces

Big thanks to Andy, who contacted us because he had a set of these pieces without any colour and wasn’t quite sure what they were, and if they were rare or not. The answer is that yes, they are rare pieces, but not because of the usual reasons. These no-colour pieces came as part of the collectors’ album, and the idea was that you were to replace them with the coloured pieces that you find in the crisp packets. For that reason, most of these pieces ended up in the bin, and that’s why you don’t see them as much as the colour variants!

  1. Hi. I have recently acquire a pristine Mil-Looney-Um 2000 collector album.
Inside the album, all four panels have been completed with a set of black and white Qubix – I am puzzled as to why this is and whether or not the full black and white set in excellent condition and complete means the Qubix collector album I have is more valuable.
I don’t have an individual Qubix and intend to sell the album – if the black and white Qubix are rare (can’t see any of these advertised on ebay at all), then what would this collector’s album be worth please.
Thanks for your time and knowledge, much appreciated.
    Regards

  2. Hi John
Apologies in the delay in getting back to you.
I think I have solved the puzzle as there was a similar item in the “sold” section (when using the “Advance” option).
It looks as though these black and white jigsaws (exactly the same as the colour version were to be removed once the proper, coloured collectable jigsaw piece was collected and placed into the album. I assume that the black & white pieces were then just chucked away hence I haven’t found many of these on ebay or anywhere else.
Thanks for your offer of help John it is much appreciated.
    The ebay link is: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/177778868164

    Best wishes
