This is something a little bit different for my site, but I couldn’t resist trying these out! They do seem on the pricy side because it was my perception that it was ‘just a cereal’, but creating this page for my readers gave me an excuse to just buy them!
Cereals and I have a love/hate relationship. I absolutely love a good cereal (I’m especially a sucker for Lucky Charms, but they aren’t as common in the UK), but when I do get a bowl, I really can’t control myself… I end up having 2 or 3 bowls in one sitting!
Why did I bother to tell you that? Well, this taste test will tell me if I still have the same desire to scoff the whole box in one sitting, which would make them a really big mistake for me, or do they fill me up enough that I can pace myself!
If you are new to my site, then just a bit of information before we go on. I built this site purely to be a genuine representation of products and to bring a bit of nostalgia into your lives! Although I have some affiliate links on the site, I am not being paid to pretend that I like any of the products that I review (or don’t recommend in some cases). You only have to look at my review pages to see I have refused to recommend or take part in high commission programs because I think the product is bad.
The internet is littered with fake reviews, and it drives me mad! If I say something is good, it is because I genuinely think it is. With that being said, taste is also subjective, so if I say that I don’t like something, but you do, it’s fine, just my preference! (don’t hate me!)
Price
One of the first things that we look at when we see a new product on the market is how much it costs. Usually, we aren’t going to take a leap of faith that a product will be good without either having a sample or having it be at least cost-effective.
I’m not going to sugarcoat it, Surreal isn’t cheap when you compare it to other cereals on the market, but that is because it isn’t like those. The best way to look at it to compare it to a protein shake or a protein bar. Once you do that, you will see that it is actually quite cost-effective.
8 box bundle (what I did), this works out at £33.60 (cheaper if you use my code), which is £4.20 per box.
Don’t worry, I was a bit shocked at that price too, but when you work out that you have 6 servings per box (40g servings), it actually works out at £0.70 per serving!
Is it a subscription?
Yes. That was the main thing that put me off this company. Basically, when you order on their website, you are entering a subscription service. I have had issues with these types of companies before, because I didn’t want to be tied down or have to speak to someone on the phone just to cancel… But let me just take a minute to really highlight how easy it was to cancel… You log into your account and click the ‘Cancel Subscription’ button… That’s it. No talking to anyone, no pressure, no harassment… Easy as pie!
If you just want to try it out and get the 4-box bundle, it will cost £1.00 per serving (£6 per box, £24 total)
You just have to look at this comparison to really see how different this is from other cereals.

The Taste Test
Now to get stuck into the good part of this page… tasting them all! Once again, taste is subjective, so I’m going to be completely honest about the flavours and what other brands they taste like, just to give you a better picture of what to expect.
Flavour | Rating |
Cinnamon | 10/10 |
Cookies & Cream | 10/10 |
Caramelised Biscuit | 10/10 |
Cocoa | 9/10 |
Blueberry Muffin | 8/10 |
Choc Hazelnut | 7/10 |
Frosted | 6/10 |
Honey Crunch | 6/10 |
Blueberry Muffin – 8/10

I’m not usually a massive fan of the fruity flavours in a cereal, but this one was great. This has an American vibe to it, so if you are a fan of USA flavours, then you are in for a winner. The cereal is covered in a really nice, sweet coating too. Really pleasantly surprised!
Does it taste like any other cereal? -This reminds me of the Boo-berry cereal I had imported from America a few years ago. Nothing that I think I can compare it to in the UK though.
Honey Crunch – 6/10

I feel bad for scoring this one so low, but there is a reason. It’s pretty bland. Some people might like the subtle flavours in their cereal, but I was hoping for something like Honey Nut Loops. Nothing against it, it wasn’t terrible, but nothing exciting!
Does it taste like any other cereal? – Not really. I can’t think of any cereal that this reminds me of.
Cocoa – 9/10

So, i was probably expecting this one to be closer to Coco Pops in flavour than what it is, but that’s not a bad thing. The Cocoa flavour is really chocolatey and is actually really close to the biscuit part of an Oreo! I wasn’t expecting that.
Does it taste like any other cereal? – I would say that this is a mix between an Oreo biscuit and Wheetos.
Frosted – 6/10

For some reason, i was expecting these to be flakes… It’s funny how long term marketing of Frosties can manipulate your brain like that! They aren’t flakes, they are the same shape as the rest, but the flavour is very close to Golden Nuggets than Frosties. That’s unfortunate for me though, because i’m not a massive fan of that flavour (I ate them too much as a child and put myself off them)
Does it taste like any other cereal? – Yes, it is very, very close to Golden Nuggets!
Cinnamon – 10/10

I was nervous about this one. I loved the Cinnamon Grahams cereal that was out when i was young, but never got to have it that much because nobody else in the family liked them. There was a possibility that this one could be too strong a flavour, but my fears were not needed… They knocked it out the park with this one!
The cinnamon flavour is just right, and so is the sweetness. Out of all of the flavours, this is my favourite!
Does it taste like any other cereal? -Closest would be Curiously Cinnamon cereal.
Cookies & Cream – 10/10

This one is another ‘obvious’ one… It’s Oreo flavour! This flavour tastes very similar to the cocoa flavour, but with vanilla cereal added to it. Although that doesn’t sound like it would make that much of a difference… It does. 10/10!
Does it taste like any other cereal? – Yes, it’s close to the Oreo cereal and name-brand Cookies & Cream.
Caramelised Biscuit – 10/10

Yes, this is exactly what you think it is… Biscoff! The taste is fantastic and I would 100% buy this flavour again. If you are a fan of Biscoff then you need to try this cereal out. It’s not too strong a flavour that it is offputting, it’s just right.
Does it taste like any other cereal? – There is a cereal in Aldi that is caramelised biscuit too. This is the closest to it!
Choc Hazelnut – 7/10

This was the first flavour that I tried from the box. Although the box hints that this is a Nutella flavour, I didn’t really get that from it. It was chocolatey and maybe a hint of hazelnut, but that wasn’t an obvious one for me. It is sweet, but not too sweet.
Does it taste like any other cereal? – I’m not sure if this actually tastes anything like another cereal out there. None that I can think of, at least!
How Effective is it?
This is the part that I was really curious about. I’m a glutton when it comes to cereal and it never seems to fill me up. If i’m honest, i was expecting the exact same experience here, but that’s not the case.
Although 40g for a serving doesn’t sound a lot, it really did fill me up. Actually, i tried to do a few reviews in the one sitting, but after my first bowl… I had to wait until dinner time!
Nutritional Values
Below are the nutritional values for each of the flavours of Surreal.

Where to buy
Surreal is available to purchase via their website here. You also get 15% off your order with the link, making it even more affordable!
There are a lot of different flavours, but they all have the same shape and texture. They are crunchy hoops (but each bite is substantial). The extra flavour comes from the sweet coating around the cereal. Hopefully, this page will help you figure out what each flavour tastes like!
Yes, you can only buy surreal as a subsription, but you can cancel any time (even after you order),
Really easy, you simply cancel through their website. You don’t need to speak to anyone on the phone and you are not hassled about cancelling. That was a concern that I had too, but they have made it really easy.
Taste is subjective, but I think the Cinnamon flavour is the best. Followed closely by the Caramelised Biscuit and Cookies & Cream.
