I’ve come across numerous videos and guides online, trying to address the recurring problem encountered with the Steam Deck’s external monitor. The problem that I’m tackling on this page is the device fails to fully recognize an external monitor and is limited to a resolution of 640×480 while in desktop mode (Sometimes it will show the standard gaming mode fuzzy too).
This issue can be incredibly frustrating, and based on both research and personal experience, it appears to be primarily caused by two factors:
- Connecting the Steam Deck’s external monitor while already in desktop mode.
- “Waking up” the Steam Deck in desktop mode, although this is a rare occurrence.
